Columtine Music Teachers Association (CMTA) as CSMTA LOCAL ASSOCIATION OF THE YEAR for 2010
| | Columbine Music Teachers Association (CMTA) is the 2009-2010 winner of the Local Association Award. | | Colorado State Music Teachers Association congratulates the Columbine Music Teachers Association (CMTA) as the recipient of the Local Association of the Year Award for 2009-2010. Although their association is smaller in member numbers, look to this exemplary group for progress and determination. In changing their Achievement Day venue, CMTA found the freedom to redesign their event format and provide more game and recital opportunities for students. Inspired by their success, the group updated Achievement Day Ear Training Tests. Through their committed efforts, CMTA launched their website this year and became more visible to the community at large. Posting information on their website made it possible to redirect mailing expense funds to their student scholarship fund.
No student is overlooked by CMTA. Performance opportunities abound beginning in the fall and continuing throughout the year for students of all ages, including adults. A Master Class challenged CMTA’s students. During the holidays, students entertained Starbucks and Tattered Cover clientele.CMTA reached out to new teachers via letters and follow-up phone calls and through their mentoring program. Members took advantage of many opportunities provided by CMTA including PREP study groups, special teacher certificates, technology training, master teacher observations, and professional growth and education via monthly programs.
It is within this thriving environment that CMTA retains its members and looks to the future for opportunities to grow and succeed. CMTA President Kellie Johannik described the group as “small yet active.” By attending all CSMTA Board meetings, President Johannik set a precedent of communication between the state and local organizations. It is through the efforts of groups like CMTA that CSMTA is recognized as a viable and vibrant organization. | | | | | | | |
